Approximate method is proposed by which peak dynamic deflections and corresponding frequencies of simple-span and 2-span highway bridges under action of 2-axle vehicle with relatively short wheel base can be predicted; method is based on unique division of energy originally possessed by vehicle between bridge and vehicle itself; maximum deflection for given bridge vehicle system will occur when as much of this energy as possible is transferred from vehicle to bridge in form of strain energy; results obtained from previous study of 2-span bridge problem are reviewed.
