Eight years ago French Automobile Club de l'Ouest (ACO) offered award for first gas turbine powered car to complete 24-hr Le Mans Race at minimum average speed of 150 kmph (93.225 mph) and to comply with regulations for all cars entering; Rover Co and Owen organization decided to pool resources and complete gas turbine car was produced for official trials at Le Mans on Apr 6 1963; development of car from inception of project to final post-race examination is described including administrative and test problems; future prospects; detailed race performance data.
