Speeds of 125 mph will require close attention to weight reduction as well as stability problems; 27 to 28% of truck weight may be lowered; solid wheels may reduce weight 6 to 7%, while monobloc wheel weight drops 0.2 to 0.8 tons/car; disk brakes also lower car weight; sketch of weight distribution of British Railway Mark II first class car; future design must consider shorter swing links, improved riding qualities, better shell design and collision protection, elastic deformation of 2 1/2 ft, longer bodies, and weight reduction for reducing acceleration time.
