Description is presented of Hamburg subway; factors taken into consideration in selecting route of planned subway, as well as problems arising at selecting construction methods, are discussed; reliable, so-called Berliner wall open type construction was adopted, which is particularly suitable for Hamburg soil building conditions; section of subway running under Hamburg Railway Terminal was built using tunneling shield.
