Proposal to define steam locomotive for use on rails in which power is transmitted to wheels through medium of gearing; so arranged that revolutions of prime mover exceed that of driving wheels; adhesion is increased from 1 : 4 1/2 to 1 : 3; reduction of capital cost; economical in upkeep; one size and type suitable for variety of purposes; even running reduces wear and tear on metals; suitable for freight and industrial work.
