Radio telemetry is used by British Railways to transmit strain measurements on railcar cardan shaft drives; for investigation, frequency modulated radio wave was used as carrier by which information required from cardan shaft was transmitted to nearby receiving aerial and then to recording equipment placed in passenger compartment of railcar; as two sets of information were required from shaft, torque and bending, coding system had to be used to enable them to be recorded at same time.
