Description of new automated handling system at "B" berth, Royal Victoria Dock, for discharge and delivery of perishable cargoes direct from ship; system is primarily to deal with frozen lamb and mutton carcasses from Australia and New Zealand, but is capable of discharging crated fruit and cartons of butter, cheese and similar products; it utilizes rail-mounted pocket and belt elevators, capable of discharging 3000 units or 100 tons of cartoned meat/hr, portable conveyors that are manually loaded to hold, system of belt conveyors for carrying cargo to automatic tally and sort units, etc.
