Trial runs of single phase prototype Oerlikon locomotive, on electrified branch line from Aix-les-Bains to Annecy proved satisfactory; control system uses fewer accelerating notches than in 16 2/3-cycle locomotive without risk of surges; induction motors running at 1500 to 3000 rpm can be used for driving auxiliaries; chief merit of 50-cycle motor found in greater flexibility in operation and freedom from flashovers.
