Conditions existing on Sacramento-Northern Railroad, in California, where electrically operated sections are supplied from trolley wires at 1500 and 1200 volts and from third rail at 600 volts, respectively, have led to design of two 68-ton locomotives, which are capable of being worked on all these systems; locomotives are fitted with four motors, and give their full speed, or 35 m.p.h., on all three pressures.
