Handling equations concern transient and steady state responses to steering input, camber or side-winds; equations are developed in terms of tire characteristics and positions of axles fifth wheel and centers of gravity of tractor and trailer units, and expressions for under-steer and oversteer that correspond to those of normal car are obtained; peculiarity of ride of articulated vehicle is fore and aft shaking that occurs, shown to be due to relative heights of centers of gravity and fifth wheel; shake is demonstrated to have two natural periods; first approximations to various natural frequencies are obtained; probable effects of spring friction.
