IN order to carry out medical research into the effects on the human body of violent acceleration and deceleration, the R.A.F. Institute of Aviation Medicine has recently installed a man-carrying centrifuge. The design specifications were drawn up by the Chief Mechanical and Electrical Engineer, Air Ministry Works Directorate, to meet the functional requirements of the Institute, and his division supervised the construction and installation. The contract for the centrifuge was placed with M. B. Wild & Co. Ltd., of Birmingham, who acted as main contractors, all the electrical plant and control gear being supplied by the General Electric Co. Ltd.
