The detecting method of building hoist load detects the three-phase current of a frequency converter and converts the three-phase current into the field current and torque current in M-T rotating reference frame; the field current, the torque current and the rated torque of the motor of the building hoist are combined to calculate the actual torque of the motor; the first climbing power of the loaded building hoist and the second climbing power of the unloaded building hoist can be further calculated according to the torque of the motor gears when the building hoist is overloaded; therefore, when the difference value of the first climbing power and the second climbing power is greater than the climbing power in an overloaded state, the building hoist is forbidden to work. The loading capacity of the building hoist can be obtained without an external weighing sensor, so that the reliability and interference problems caused by the external weighing sensor can be avoided. Besides, the invention provides a frequency converter based on the building hoist.
