The video identification system comprises a monitoring camera shooting device capable of monitoring whether passengers or vehicles are on the escalator or the passenger conveyor in real time. The video identification system further comprises a storage unit and an intelligent analysis unit, wherein the storage unit is used for storing an initial picture recorded by the monitoring camera shooting device when the escalator is idle, and the intelligent analysis unit is used for comparing a real-time picture recorded by the monitoring camera shooting device in real time with the initial picture so as to judge whether the passengers or the vehicles are on the escalator or the passenger conveyor. Compared with the prior art, according to the energy-saving escalator or the passenger conveyor, whether there are people or vehicles at the entrance, the exit and the whole stroke range of the escalator can be timely judged through the video identification system, the escalator is timely controlled to be in an energy-saving state, and the energy-saving effect is better.
