When a moving object which has darted out from the shadow of a given object present around a vehicle moves towards a determination region set around the vehicle, a system ECU (9) executes collision avoidance operation in the following manner. Namely, collision avoidance operation is executed at the early timing of after the moving object has been detected by a camera (6) but before the moving object and the given object are detected by radar (5), specifically, when the radar (5) has detected an object expanding toward the determination region. As a result, unnecessary execution of collision avoidance operation is avoided to the extent possible while swiftly executing collision avoidance operation in cases in which a moving object which has darted out from the shadow of an object moves toward the determination region.
