A method for pre-determining a decrease in the number of lanes, the method being carried out during the driving of a vehicle, the method comprising at least the following steps: S1, acquiring (20) the driving behavior of at least one preceding vehicle by means of a vehicle sensor; s2: processing and evaluating (30) the acquired (20) driving behavior of the at least one preceding vehicle to predict a reduction in the number of lanes; and S3, sending prediction information (40) to the vehicle passenger according to the prediction result and/or automatically controlling (50) the vehicle to run.
