The invention provides a driver assistance system and a safety monitoring unit and method thereof. The safety monitoring unit includes: an acquisition module configured to acquire a first line shape and a second line shape measured by two independent sensor devices and representing a shape of a same target line of a road on which a vehicle travels; a calculation module configured to calculate a difference between the first line shape and the second line shape; a determination module configured to determine whether there is a fault in the driver assistance system based on a comparison result between the calculated difference and a comparison threshold; and a generation module configured to generate a safety response command for triggering a safety response if it is determined that there is a fault in the driver assistance system.
