The fail-safe device (305) is used for neither blocking nor non-resistance movement of the steering unit (301) in the event of a failure of the drive device (302). The fail-safe device (305) comprises a braking device (1) independent of the drive device (302), the maximum braking torque of which is smaller than the maximum torque of the drive device (302). The fail-safe device (305) is suitable and designed to actuate the braking device (1) in the event of a failure of the drive device (302) and thereby brake the activity (300) of the steering unit (301) with a targeted braking torque, i.e., a fail braking torque.
