The invention provides sequential closing of electric vehicle supply equipment contactors. The electric vehicle power supply apparatus may include a pair of parallel contactors electrically connecting the vehicle with a power source. The electric vehicle power supply apparatus also includes a controller that closes one of the pair of contactors before the other of the pair of contactors is closed based on cumulative exposure in the surge current of each of the pair of contactors.
