The invention relates to a method for automatically parking a vehicle (204). The method comprises determining a parking trajectory for the vehicle (204), wherein a first portion of the parking trajectory (216) is along a portion of the first limiting motion circle (206) and a second portion of the parking trajectory (216) is along a portion of the second limiting motion circle (212). The movement of the vehicle (204) is controlled on the parking trajectory (216) to initiate the parking maneuver. Further, the vehicle (204) is positioned in the empty parking space (202).
