The invention relates to a method and a device of predicting a possible collision between an ego vehicle and an oncoming traffic participant, at least one of them following a curved path. The method comprises the following steps: after an oncoming traffic participant is detected in a predetermined scanning zone of the ego vehicle (E) and is selected as a target (T), a measured trace of the target position, speed and angle relative to the ego vehicle is generated. Then, an approximated current core path of the target is constructed, and a current core path for the ego vehicle is computed and predicted for a maximum admissible length. The intersecting points of the predicted core path of the ego vehicle and the approximated core path of the target are computed and the most critical intersection points are taken into consideration, in order to predict a possible collision of the ego vehicle with the target based on the probability for the ego vehicle to reach the most critical intersection points within a predefined time interval.
