The method detects at least one parameter which characterizes the current driving operation situation of the rail vehicle; calculates, estimates, or determines a first temperature component of the predictive friction element temperature based on the current driving operation situation of the rail vehicle; and takes into consideration a first temperature component while monitoring and influencing the thermal state of the friction brake system.
