PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wheel bearing spline processing method by which a highly-accurate female spline having a reduced phase shift between itself and a guide spline can be formed while suppressing an increase in a cost of manufacture.SOLUTION: A wheel bearing has: an outward member 5 on an inner peripheral surface of which outside raceway surfaces of plural rows are formed; an inward member 1, 2 on an outer peripheral surface of which inside raceway surfaces of plural rows, which are opposite to the outside raceway surfaces, are formed; rolling elements of plural rows 3, 4 which are interposed between the outside raceway surfaces of the outward member and the inside raceway surfaces of the inward member; and holders 15, 16 which hold the rolling elements. A spline 39 with an interference is formed on an inner periphery of the inward member 1, 2, and a guide spline 44 is formed on an inboard side end part of the spline with the interference. The spline 39 with the interference and the guide spline 44 are formed on an intermediate component 1' of the inward member by slotter processing with use of a slotter tool 80 which has a first cutting blade 81 corresponding to the spline 39 with the interference, and a second cutting blade 82 corresponding to the guide spline 44.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 11
【課題】 製造コストの高騰を抑えつつ、ガイドスプラインとの間の位相ずれを小さくした高精度の雌スプラインを形成できる車輪用軸受のスプライン加工方法を提供する。【解決手段】 車輪用軸受は、内周面に複列の外側軌道面が形成された外方部材5と、外周面に前記外側軌道面と対向する複列の内側軌道面が形成された内方部材1,2と、外方部材の外側軌道面と内方部材の内側軌道面との間に介装された複列の転動体3,4と、この転動体を保持する保持器15,16とを有する。内方部材1,2の内周に締め代付スプライン39が形成され、この締め代付スプラインのインボード側端部にガイドスプライン44が形成される。内方部材の中間部品1’に、締め代付スプライン39に対応する第一切削刃81と、ガイドスプライン44に対応する第二切削刃82とを有するスロッター工具80を用いたスロッター加工により、締め代付きスプライン39とガイドスプライン44を形成する。【選択図】図11
