To detect ground fault of a motor wire more accurately than a conventional one.SOLUTION: A ground fault detection device detects ground fault of a motor wire which connects a travel motor, which generates travel power of a vehicle, and an inverter which drives the travel motor. According to the device, any one of plural switching elements, which constitute the inverter, is set to a conduction state in a stop state of the vehicle, and in this state, ground fault of the motor wire is detected based on a voltage of a smoothing capacitor which is provided at input of the inverter.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
