A motor control system for an electric vehicle includes: a battery; a motor including a rotor and a stator; two inverter circuits that are each coupled to the stator and are each configured to control driving and regeneration of the motor, and a control apparatus configured to control driving of the two inverter circuits. The control apparatus is configured to cause the battery to discharge by driving the respective two inverter circuits and applying, to the rotor, rotational torques in directions opposite to each other, and execute a deterioration diagnosis process of the battery, based on an output current or an output voltage of the battery upon the discharging.
