India is expected to witness record growth in electric vehicle (EV) sales to be able to achieve the pledged targets of 30% sales from EVs in 2030. A well-coordinated ecosystem is necessary for a holistic and sustainable growth of the sector. The article discusses the challenges associated with the high adoption of EVs, and the role of the EV ecosystem in unlocking them. Aggressive and integrated approaches are required to support this rapid shift. A holistic approach is taken to identify the interconnections and interdependencies to enable clean energy integration, managed charging, parking regulations, battery safety and standards, battery re-use and recycling, etc. By adopting such an ecosystem approach India will be able to unlock the full potential of EVs to achieve our long-term climate change and energy targets.
