This paper examines the use of the pseudo-Doppler effect for beamforming and suppression of in-band jamming and interfering signals (JSs and ISs). The effect is created by virtual antenna motion (VAM), produced by switching the antenna arrays’ elements (AEs). The paper proposes and substantiates the structures and algorithms of the single-VAM and multiple-YAM receivers (Rxs) realizing this technique, investigates the associated phenomena, and derives the equations for the required parameters of the Rxs, arrays, and algorithms. The quality of beamforming and the level of inband JSs and ISs suppression are estimated by simulation. It is shown that the performance of the single-VAM algorithm approaches the potential one only if the Rx’s array is relatively small, whereas the performance of the multiple-VAM algorithm, which includes the single-VAM algorithm as its unit, closely approaches the potential one for large antenna array. Since the performance of the existing beamforming techniques with static connections between the AEs and the Rxs can also approach the potential performance, the paper discusses the selection of the most adequate techniques.
