The investigation is carried out of stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) of a laser beam with the screw dislocation of wave front (a Laguerre-Gaussian LG/sub 0//sup 1/ mode). The predicted novel phenomenon - failure of the phase conjugation at SBS of focused vortex beam - is experimentally confirmed.
