This report analyzes the competitive position of the Great Lakes for containerized cargo. The container market is analyzed from the perspective of shippers and carriers. A pro forma cost analysis for a number of options of accommodating potential general cargo traffic is conducted. Comparative transportation costs per ton are developed for a Great Lakes routing and competing Atlantic coastal locations.
