The Silt Sampling Study was initiated by the Office of Chief of Engineers, U.S. Army, in an effort and in connection with other studies, to ascertain the cause of the erosion observed on the baffle piers and deck of Bonneville Spillway Dam at Bonneville, Oregon. The purpose of the study was to determine, over a period of one year (1 April 1942 to 31 March 1943), the amount and character of the suspended material carried by the Columbia River at Bonneville Spillway Dam.
