The Polar Platform spacecraft is an Earth observation satellite, scheduled for launching and injection into its Sun synchronous orbit in 1997 by means of Ariane 5 launcher. The Polar Platform structure has large dimensions (more than 10 m total length), and it is a good example of future large structures which will be operative in orbit during the next decade. The main tasks performed up to now and those foreseen in the corresponding development program to define a suitable concept for this structure are presented.
