The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) sponsored this research in an effort to improve existing guidelines for spacing between the terminus of an exit ramp and the nearest downstream frontage road access point. The principal objective of this research effort was to collect, analyze, and interpret data to assess the feasibility of alternate methods for accomplishing this task. Through the course of conducting this research project, several design guidelines were considered and presented to TxDOT staff in various formal and informal meetings.
