The use of solar electric power sources on space rendezvous flights is discussed. Recent advances in instrumental spacecraft design, the advent of shuttle launching, and solar-electric propulsion of comet probes are emphasized. Several proposed rendezvous missions to short-period comets with perihelion distances less than 1 AU are cited as feasible examples.
