The purpose of the project is to develop a runway and supporting facilities capable of handling large jet transport aircraft. The project will improve the safety characteristics of the airport for all users, and improve air transport service to the community of Wrangell. The airport facility is relatively remote from the developed areas of the Wrangell community and the project does not result in any major irretrievable or irrevocable committment of natural resources. The project will not require the relocation of any persons and will not have any deleterious effect on any areas designated as public parks, recreation areas, wildlife or waterflow refuges or historic sites. The project will not have any serious adverse impact on the local or regional ecological systems. It will not affect the water table in the area, nor affect the tides and currents in the Eastern Passage. The project will not cause any significant increase in air pollution in the area.
