The Ninilchik Small Boat Harbor is an existing Corps of Engineers project constructed in 1961. Annual maintenance requirements include dredging of the boat basin, emergency dredging of the entrance channel and repair of the beach erosion protection. The environmental impacts resulting from the operation and maintenance of the project are associated with marine biota, water quality, beach morphology, and human ecolocy. Presently identifiable adverse effects are: removal of water-land interface, temporary increase in water turbidity, burial of land-air interface at beach disposal site, and disruption of littoral currents.
