The highway route, Interstate I-55, a controlled access facility, was included as part of the original 595 miles of Interstate highway mileage allotted to the State of Louisiana under the Federal Aid Highway Act of 1956. Interstate Route I-55 begins at a junction with Interstate Route I-10, northeast of LaPlace, La., and extends northerly intersecting Interstate Route I-12 near Hammond, La., thence continuing northerly to the Louisiana-Mississippi State Line west of Osyka, Mississippi. The proposed construction projects for which this statement is being prepared are located in St. John the Baptist and Tangipahoa Parishes of Louisiana, between the Town of Ponchatoula and the settlement of Frenier. A discussion of adverse and beneficial environmental effects is presented.
