The Interior District of the Alaska Department of Highways has deemed it necessary to reconstruct a portion of the Fairbanks-Anchorage Highway approximately 22.6 miles in length from Cantwell north to a point inside Mt. McKinley Park. The proposed project will provide an important link between Anchorage and Fairbanks via Mt. McKinley National Park, and the substandard elements that presently exist would render the roadway inadequate and unsafe, in light of the estimated traffic that would use the facility. Construction scars from cutting or blasting would certainly fall within this category. Care during planning and actual construction will be exercised to keep these effects to a minimum. (Author)
