Requirements of customers for civil aeroengines, which have become the design and business philosophies of Rolls-Royce, and which have been applied throughout their heritage resulting in quality engineering, are discussed. These requirements are considered with respect to engineering quality of aeroengines and civil gas turbine engines. The following are discussed: mechanical integrity and reliability, thermal modeling and validation, fan/disc assembly design validation, derivative engine benefits, fan/disc assembly certification requirements, economic operation and environmental responsibility (emissions, noise). The Trent family and Trent 800 is focused upon. The definition and satisfaction of future requirements is discussed.
