A demand optimized selection of damping force should bring about a further clear increase in ride comfort on all roads and under all operating conditions, without undermining vehicle handling or safety. With this objective in mind, BMW developed a fast, fully automatic adaptive system for adjusting the damping force--the Electronic Damper Control. Frequency-dependent damping was realized for the first time, the structure and function of which are described in the report. Finally, the effectiveness of the system is exemplified by means of test results.
