Purchase, distribution and inventory management of highly complex materials is a facet of our industrial effort often involving costs in excess of capital investment. The Navy's inventory management of aeronautical items represents one of the largest centralized management efforts in the world today. An insight to the methods used and the influences which give rise to the various techniques of the art is an education of itself.This paper is a detailed disclosure of the actual practices used in the Navy's aeronautical spares inventory management.
