The rapid advancement of vertical lift technology over the past thirty years (less than half the time involved in fixed wing technology advancement) has provided the helicopter the capability of eliminating airports and runways with their lengthy, complicated navigation and approach systems and provide an effective and efficient air transport commercial system. A review of the current vertical lift technology status is provided along with capabilities that will be available in the immediate future.
