Abstract The numerical propagation of the dynamics of the re-entry vehicle is the core segment of the determination of the performance of the system. In this chapter, we review the models for the physical environment and the relevant aspects of the equations of motion for atmospheric entry. All relevant reference frames are discussed, and the transformation between these frames is clearly provided. Finally, we present the models that re used for the guidance of the capsule and winged vehicles. Both vehicles use similar bank angle modulation (designed to prevent skipping entry), but distinct angle of attack modulation.
