This paper presents a novel architecture designed for signal-free intersections involving autonomous vehicles, aiming to alleviate traffic congestion and enhance safety. By leveraging vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) and vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2X) communication, the proposed methodology assigns unique trajectories to vehicles within the intersection area, facilitating smooth traffic flow without requiring the traffic signals. The hierarchical solution structure offers flexibility, allowing for a choice between centralized or distributed computational methods. Through trajectory generation and feedback control mechanisms, autonomous vehicles navigate intersections efficiently and safely, thus alleviating the challenges of traditional intersection management.
