This paper describes the development of an electronic system for use with raster scan colour displays in aircraft. The primary purpose of the display system is to provide real time air data information such as compass heading, vehicle attitude, etc. to the crew. As such it is designed to be a self contained sub-system which can be interfaced to and managed by an Air Data Processor (ADP). An experimental unit has been designed and built which drives a standard colour monitor giving a line resolution of 512 points. Overall picture control is carried out by a dedicated display handler which is designed to interface to both 8 and 16 bit micros. This unit, named the Colour Raster Generator (CRG), acts as a peripheral to the main (host) processor, the ADP.
