AETMS has demonstrated the feasibility of an airborne image generating system. The data compression and data decompaction algorithms have been demonstrated in real time. This decompaction can be extended to multiple applications or users. Functions such as navigation correlation, terrain avoidance, terrain following, terrain masking, route planning and threat avoidance can be augmented through the use of the data base. The display function is just one of the many benefits of the data base. Real time display generation has been accomplished. The formats demonstrated illustrate the flexibility available in the AETMS to create a wide variety of different displays. AETMS is available to evaluate display formats and resulting pilot workload reductions. AETMS has also demonstrated the feasibility of extending the application of the data base technology to other uses. AETMS provides a versatile tool to expand our knowledge of the many uses of digital map data.
