Harr is Corporation, Government Aerospace Systems Division has developed the Digital Map Generator (DMG) which provides a full-color moving map display as well as providing a digital terrain base for advanced avionics functions, including TF/TA. The Defense Mapping Agency (DMA) terrain elevation data, is stored in a compressed digital form and is reconstructed at a 60 Hz rate to generate the moving map display. In addition, the reconstructed digital data is avialable to support real-time TF/TA calculations. This paper presents a description of the architecture of the high performance DMG, known as the Digital Terrain Management and Display System (DTMDS) which will be flight-tested on AFTI/F-16 in 1985. The results of the TF/TA simulations are presented, which show that the processing for TF/TA is met with the addition of one auxiliary processor card in an available card slot in the DTMDS. This TF/TA implementation study was completed as an internal R and D project at Harris in conjunction with an independent R and D program at General Dynamics/Fort Worth Division.
