Due to increasing fuel prices new approaches to increase fuel economy were developed. One promising approach is to train drivers such as to optimize the driving and shifting modes. In many training courses this method has been practised successfully, in that up to 12 % fuel consumption improvement has been achieved after only a few days of correct driver training. This report compares the new against the conventional way of driving. The effects due to some different drivers and route characteristics upon drive-line components and gear change elements are being examined. (Wassmann)
