This is an analysis of a high-speed material handling application which utilizes the AdeptOne robot to remove 30 mm projectiles form a moving conveyor into a transportation box. This robotic application is first for Aerojet Ordnance Company (AOC), mocked up in a laboratory then installed in the factory. Described is the choosing of the application, supplier, application development, overall system design and the transfer of technology to the workplace. Each activity described is analyzed and evaluated. Areas highlighted include the strengths and weaknesses of robotics in a high-volume production facility and the level of effort required to develop a factory-reliable robotic system.
