Diesel generators are installed in passenger coaches and diesel cars, while motor generators are used in electric coaches. These generators are subject to severe requirements such as weight and space limitations due to under-frame mounting; quick voltage recovery after the air compressor is started and motor commutation stability when the trolley voltage is rapidly changed. Above problems are solved by the adoption of a brushless generator coupled with high speed diesel engine, and of ripple voltage type series motors.
