Results of studies concerning the productive weld joints in high-strength low-alloy steels made at various welding parameters and thickness of plates were presented. Properties of materials in state of delivery and after heat treatment and properties of weld and heat-affected zone were determined. The steel weldments with an increased and high impact resistance were found very sensitive to deterioration under action of thermal cycles with slow cooling. The decrease in the impact resistance was observed also in the original material close to the weld. Formation of martesite-austenite and martensite-austenite-carbide islands was regarded to the local segregation of the carbon. Presence of the islands was observed also in simulated heat-affected zones.
