Train traffic control systems, which track the train positions on the lines and automatically control traffic signals according to a train schedule, contribute to both the on-time running of trains and a reduction in the load on dispatchers. Recently the range of automation in such systems has increased, and automatic control of shunting trains within train yards is now also done, in addition to control of trains running on the main lines. Also, the extent of train schedule editing functions for displaying train schedules on a workstation display and for accurately changing the schedule is remarkable. These functions support quick recovery from schedule delays. The conventional work method in which train schedule diagram according to regulations is greatly changing. On the other hand, fault tolerant control computers are the nucleus of the computer system, realizing high reliability and ease of maintenance with the system continuing to run even during hardware breakdowns. An autonomous decentralized network realizes high reliability through a double transmission route, and a system flexibility is improved.
